Summer is fast approaching bringing warm weather, great riding, and patio BBQs Best of all is what follows closely behind summer. That’s right, cyclocross season. Sure the first race is still three months away, but for us cross junkies, it’s always somewhere on our minds. Here’s an overview of what’s happening in the 2015-2016 season.
Vancouver Cyclocross Coalition has posted their calendar and it’s packed full of dates. Seven races spread out from the beginning of September to the first week of December keep the cross vibes going all fall. With the added dates this year comes some new venues. Confederation Park in Burnaby takes on day one of the classic double header with Vanier the following day while Queens park in New West makes an appearance mid OCtober. It’s always exciting to race new local courses and this season should be a good one.
BC Premier Cyclocross Series
In addition to the VCXC series, Cycling BC has announced the BC Premier Cyclocross Series with events in Whistler, Maple Ridge (Pumpkin Cross), Kelowna, Surrey, Abbotsford, and the return of the BC Provincials to North Van. Information is a bit scarce on the series format at this point, but more will come as the season approaches.
Over on the island they are packing in the races as well. Cross on the Rock kicks off their season on Sept 13 with seven races throughout the fall. Big news on the island this year is that SSCXWC 2015 is being held in Victoria on Nov 21/22. This promises to be a debaucherous weekend with some bike racing thrown in so if you don’t already have a singlespeed, start figuring out a way to get one. Seriously. You don’t want to miss this.
If you find yourself without a race in BC, head south of the border where I’m sure they will get your cross fix sorted out. Cascade Cross typically hosts 6 or 7 races that start in October and extend into January while MFG is hosting six races as well as the UCI Waves For Water double header in November. A little bit further south Cross Revolution adds 6 races to the Washington CX scene.
So there you have it. So much cyclocross on deck for the 2015-2016 season. As always complete race dates for all PNW series are posted on the Holeshot race calendar so check back often for updates.
