The cyclocross machine stops for no one. Week 4 in the race calendar and the hits just keep coming. A late addition to the schedule, the Whistler Cyclocross double header took over one of the few empty weekend’s on the coastal calendar. No more weekend off for you! In the interior the Vortex in the Vines is up for Sunday, keeping their strong season of races going.
Whistler Cyclocross Sept 24 & 25
Back for it’s third incarnation is the Whister Cyclocross double header weekend. It is the first stop of the BC Premier Cyclocross Series and both days count for points, so if you are targeting this series, it’s a great chance to rack up double points. The setting is hard to beat, especially with the nice weather in the forecast. Impressive mountain backdrop and great spectating make this an appealing weekend getaway.
The course looks very similar to last year. Expect to spend about half the lap navigating through the Creekside village before hitting the flyover and heading up the mountain. Make sure to give everyone on the patio at Dusty’s your best pain face while you fly by. A steep run up, which is rideable with the right gearing, is sure to tire you out each lap. The map shows a sand pit, which did not exist last year, so don’t count on that being a feature. The one thing to note is that when you hit the hillside, the course is rough. Very rough. Higher tire pressure is advisable to avoid pinch flatting. Laps last year were fast, so expect to be making a lot of rounds on the course.

Vortex in the Vines – Sunday Sept 25
The interior is hosting their Vortex in the Vines on Sunday. The setting for this one looks pretty awesome and we were lucky enough to have Ben Johnson write up a race report for his experience last season: Vortex in the Vines. Racing through a vineyard. Awesome. More info: https://www.facebook.com/bcinteriorcyclocross/
Here’s a little dash cam footage of the course
